New Year's Eve Concert of the Staatskapelle Dresden
This New Year’s Eve concert will introduce a German Strauss to the Viennese Strausses. Although this marriage might seem surprising, it cannot be denied that Dresden and Vienna are closer than most people think. The Saxon capital was an early victim of Strauss mania. Just a few weeks after Johann Strauss Jr. celebrated his first hit with the Annen Polka in 1852, he went on tour through Germany with his ensemble. The first stop was Dresden. And it is entirely possible that he found here the inspiration for the operetta Waldmeister, which is set near the city.
Broadcasting date on ZDF: December 31, 2023, starting at 5.30 p.m.
