Berliner Philharmoniker: Missa Solemnis
The Missa solemnis is one of Beethoven’s most personal works – a passionate declaration of faith and humanity. It draws on the traditions of church music, but in its monumental form it far transcends them. By turns hymnal, dramatic and contemplative, Beethoven interprets the text musically – from the solemn cries of the Kyrie to the concluding plea for peace. Kirill Petrenko and the Berliner Philharmoniker present the mass to mark the 200th anniversary of Beethoven’s death.
