Boulez Saal: Dark Matters with Jonathan Ware
Golda Schultz and Jonathan Ware’s program explores some of the darker moments of human existence, from nocturnal apparitions and moonlight encounters to phantasms and hallucinations.
Music by Brahms, Clara Schumann, and George Crumb complements works by the American Florence Price, whose music has recently been rediscovered, and French composer Rita Strohl, still a rarity on international concert programs. The recital concludes with Richard Strauss’s Four Last Songs, the 84-year old composer’s serene meditation on life and death.
