Dear friend,

After a very busy start to this year I am actually grateful the rest of this season will be a little quieter. Moving between various musical worlds and styles can be rather taxing on the voice and body at times, so prioritizing rest and reflection is a major part of staying ready for the exciting things that are coming in the future.

March was filled with new music discoveries; the most interesting ones being Rita Strohl and Andre Previn. If you get a chance I recommend checking out recordings of the following:

Slowly but surely spring is starting to make itself known to us again and with that renewal I am happy to report that I will be revisiting some special concert rep and roles.

This April I will be back in New York with my dear colleagues at the New York Phil and we will perform Knoxville by Samuel Barber. I was thrilled to start my season with this piece in Boston and it’s a pleasure to sing it again!

Also, for the German-speakers, I’m working on a very exciting radio project, where I will be talking about music that is dear to my heart (I may or may not be accompanied with dears colleagues of mine). Stay tuned to hear more soon!

The rest of my spring will be a calm one where I intend to work quietly at home to prepare for some new roles and music coming up later in the year.

Electrolyte Drink

• Your favorite coconut water (I know some of you might not like the taste but trust me it is necessary)

• 2 lemons (take off as much of the skin as you can to remove bitterness)

• 1 Ginger root (I like it a little spicy so do this to taste; But make sure you can feel it tickle your tongue on the way down otherwise it's not enough)

• Honey (about 1-2 tablespoons)

• Pinch of salt (for my hypermobile people and those in need of the salt, your pinch might be bigger than others. Do what tastes good to your body. Go slow. It's easier to add than subtract my friends)

• One sturdy blender

You will use about half a cup or a little more, depending on how liquid you want the concoction, of the coconut water. Add all the other ingredients to the blender as well and then BLITZ that sucker.

Check it for taste and if you're doing a happy dance cause all the zing is making you feel alive then you're on the right mix. If it's too sour add more coconut water. Too much ginger then drop a little honey in. Go slow with the salt till you find the right mix for you.
